105th American Meteorological Society (AMS) Annual Meeting Overview
Technical presentations and networking at the 105th American Meteorological Society (AMS) Annual Meeting.
The 105th American Meteorological Society (AMS) Annual Meeting was held in January 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana, bringing together researchers, scientists, and practitioners from across the atmospheric, environmental, meteorological, and Earth system sciences communities.
Ryan Paul Lafler, President, CEO, and Lead Consultant of Premier Analytics Consulting, LLC, delivered an 8-hour professional short course (workshop) titled “A Python Workshop to Efficiently Access, Deliver, Visualize, and Analyze CMIP6-like Big Climate Data in the Cloud”. The full-day workshop focused on practical, scalable approaches for working with large environmental and climate datasets hosted in cloud object storage, emphasizing efficient data access, analysis, and visualization using Python on local computing environments.
The short course covered workflows for accessing and working with CMIP6 climate model data, NOAA operational datasets (including RTMA), and ECMWF historical records, highlighting storage-aware formats, cloud-native access patterns, and reproducible analytics pipelines suitable for research and operational applications.
In addition to the full-day short course, Ryan delivered two technical presentations during the AMS Annual Meeting. One presentation, “Developing Artificial and Convolutional Neural Networks with Python’s Keras API”, focused on modern deep learning architectures and applied modeling workflows for environmental and geophysical data. The second presentation, “A Python Roadmap for Accessing and Interfacing with Big Climate Data in Cloud Storage Providers”, outlined scalable strategies for accessing, processing, and analyzing large climate and meteorological datasets in cloud environments.
